It wasn’t the dominating game that a Vanier Cup final with Laval in it would lead one to believe would happen.
But after a back and forth affair Saturday at Hamilton’s Tim Hortons Field for the 52nd ArcelorMittel Vanier Cup title, Laval’s Rouge et Or showed once again how determined they can be when a championship is on the line.
Third-year quarterback Hugo Richard, above, completing 25-of-32 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns and also ran the ball nine times for 62 yards to help his Laval squad win 31-26 and take their ninth Vanier Cup title.
Hugo, who took game MVP honours as well, ran the ball in for the go-ahead touchdown, below, with only a few minutes remaining on the clock.
Head coach Glen Constatin, below getting a Gatorade shower, had nothing but praise for his young signal caller.
“I’m very, very proud of him,” said Constatin. “He’s resilient, he’s become a better leader and the future is great.”
Laval wins its record ninth Cup – here raised by 25-year-old receiver Felix Faubert-Lussier – in ten tries, only losing to McMaster in a double-overtime thriller in 2011 in Vancouver.

Your photos are even more striking because both teams seem to be wearing the same red. That must have been confusing for the players! In any case these are stunning action shots.
