Portugal beat Poland Thursday in Euro 2016 action and downtown Brampton once again became bathed in red and green.

Portugal now heads to the semi-finals to play the winner of the Wales – Belgium game which takes place tomorrow.

How Do You Say ‘Really?’ in Portuguese?

…and the winner of the EUFA Euro 2016 football championship is…Portugal!

Well, actually the Portuguese team only won their match with Croatia Saturday to advance to the round of 8 where they will play Poland on June 30.

But the fans who drove up and down Brampton’s main street and congregated at the Four Corners downtown seemed to celebrate like the Henri Delaunay Trophy was raised and the tournament had ended.

Since 1960, Portugal has made it to the final championship match only once, losing to Greece in 2004 in front of a home-country crowd in Lisbon.

And dare I say, Portugal has also failed to make it to the finals of the FIFA World Cup since that championship tournament was started in 1930.

So, I suppose, it’s better to do a little celebrating, burn up some gas money, and cheer on your team now when you’ve got the chance.
