China 2017 – 8 – Suzhou’s Shi Zi Lin

Built in 1342 by Zen Buddhist monk Wen Tianru, this classic Yuan Dynasty Suzhou garden was opened to the public in the 1950s and includes a large pond and an elaborate grotto of taihu rocks containing a maze of nine paths winding through 21 caves across three levels.

  1. I’ve been there and loved it, but your photos are much better than mine. Like that long hallway/keyhole shot. And those formations in the gardens? Nothing else is like it that I’ve seen. Thanks for the memories.
