A Sunny Daily Double

Only made it to two of the nine races run at Toronto’s Woodbine Racetrack today, so this is essentially my ‘Daily Double’ of images.

Sunny Singh, below, rode Rocky Palace across first in Race 3 and brought the thoroughbred in at $11.80 for the win.

Luis Contreras, below.

The next race saw veteran rider Gerry Olguin ride Kat’s Good Scout for a resounding victory. And with a pedigree that includes such legendary names as Nearctic, Native Dancer, Nashua, and Bold Ruler, it was probably no surprise this horse could run.

Another Woodbine legend is track photographer Michael Burns, below, who manages to come away with brilliant images race after race.

Jockey Kayla Pizarro, below, heads out from the paddock prior to Race 4. The young rider’s father, Jorge, is a former jockey and her brother, Tyler, also rides at Woodbine where he took Canadian Champion Apprentice Jockey honors in 2007.
