The Chalk Chick

It’s not difficult to see who the artist is making those amazing drawings on the street during festivals and events all over Canada: she’s the one with almost as much chalk on her arms, legs and clothing as there is on the street.

She is Jo Lalonde, 28, and she goes by the moniker The Chalk Chick.

Lalonde, originally from Montreal and now living in Toronto, spent the day in Cobourg, Ontario, on Sunday creating her own chalk masterpiece based on Johannes Vermeer’s 17th-century oil painting Girl with a Pearl Earring.

Lalonde began her career in the arts apprenticing with oil painting, tattoing, and murals before finding her niche with chalk where she creates her art across Canada at festivals and for corporate clients such as Tim Horton’s, Ripley’s Aquarium, and Beautitone Paints.
