John Tlumacki, a staff photographer for the Boston Globe since 1981, is one of the foremost talented photojournalists working in the business today.
Named the Boston Press Photographer of the Year for 2011, his coverage of the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall also earned him a finalist spot for the Pulitzer Prize that year.
More recently, Tlumacki earned a second prize in the spot news category for the 2014 World Press Photo contest for one of his photos during the aftermath of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.
But on a daily basis, Tlumacki turns out stunning images and posts some of those on his Instagram feed.
So it comes as no surprise that when I saw his shot of ‘Big Papi’ David Ortiz recently, I felt a small bit of self-aggrandizing pride that I had shot a very similar image, this one a ‘fellow’ Red Sox player from Brantford, Ontario.
