It didn’t take long for the longshot to make its mark at Woodbine Racetrack Sunday afternoon.
In the first race of the day, Zermatta (4), ridden by Simon Husbands below, went off at 50-1 odds in the maiden allowance for two-year-old fillies and held off Mindful Chatter at 11-1 and Splashtackular as the 1-5 favorite.
But following race one, the favorites took over.
Race two saw Duppy Conqueror come across first at 5-2 odds. Race three winner Malibu Tide, getting photographed with Eurico Rosa da Silva aboard below by track photographer Michael Burns, went to the winner’s circle at 9-5.
Jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson took Blow Over out of the gates from the nine spot at 8-5 odds in race four and rode the Ontario-sired maiden for the win over Titanico by a neck, below.
After the race, Blow Over gets a cooling shower, below, on a very hot afternoon at the big Toronto racetrack.
Race six saw Simon Husbands, below, head back to the winner’s circle with the Pat O’Grady-owned and Laurie Silvera-trained Duffins.
Ahead of the seventh, it looks like jockey David Garcia, below left, wins the race to the walking ring by a nose in front of Gerry Olguin…
…but it was Patrick Husbands who took first on the track ahead of Olguin’s second place ride La Bala De Plata and Garcia on Lilah Bird who finished third.
