Just In Time For Justin Stein

There wasn’t a lot of wins to go around for all the jockeys riding their first mounts of the year at Woodbine Racetrack on Saturday.

In fact, in the ten races run to start off the thoroughbred racing season at the big Toronto track, two jockeys split six of the wins between themselves leaving only three jockeys to fight to the winner’s circle for the remaining four results.

Luis Contreras, above, started the day finishing first aboard High Tee in race one and waited until race nine before bringing in Northern Hammer.

Justin Stein won in the second and third races and rides Ida Bambina across the finish line, above, in the fourth race to take three wins in a row – just in time because Jesse M. Campbell also won three races on the day.

There was a good crowd at the track for the first races of the year and some even found some extra enthusiasm cheering on their favourite horses.

David Sealey shows jockey and fellow Barbadian Juan Crawford, below, the utmost respect after Crawford returns from the track taking Shackleton Hill to a win in the fifth race.

And jockey Skye Chernetz was all smiles despite not coming out with a win in her three entries of the day.
