Fifty years of house league and rep football in Hamilton will be celebrated late October with a gala anniversary dinner for the Hamilton Minor Football Association.
The league puts about 500 boys and girls between the ages of eight and 18 on the football field each year, like Bantam-level Westdale Eskimos player Lee Higgins, below, who has pulled in 9 of 11 receptions thrown to him in three games so far for 140 yards.
House-league players have an eight-game regular season schedule and are guaranteed to have playing time on the field. As well, recent regional expansion of house-league teams means teams are now playing an interlocking schedule with the Cambridge Minor Football Association and other regions as part of a broader association with the Ontario Varsity Football League.
Below, Nathan Jones rumbles down the field for a big gain in the first half…
…then rumbles back the other way for more yardage in the second half, below.
Oliver Pedersen kicks off following an Eskimos’ touchdown in the game they won 33-0.
Invitations have gone out to current and former players, coaches and parents for the gala 50th-anniversary Halloween Dinner Dance, which is on Friday, Oct. 25 and held at Michelangelo Banquet and Convention Centre.
Everton Frost, below, takes a serious stride as he breaks away from the line of scrimmage.
